Requirements for Foreigners to Become Turkish Citizens
Law No. 5901 sets different criteria for foreigners to acquire Turkish citizenship according to different conditions. According to this;
Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship According to General Provisions
In foreigners who wish to acquire Turkish citizenship in accordance with Article 11 of the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901;
To be an adult and have the power of discernment according to their own national law, or if stateless, according to the Turkish Civil Code No. 4721.
Have resided in Turkey for an uninterrupted period of five years prior to the date of application.
Having confirmed their decision to settle in Turkey by acquiring immovable property in Turkey, establishing a business, making an investment, transferring their trade and business center to Turkey, working in a workplace subject to a work permit, or by marrying a Turkish citizen, applying as a family, having a mother, father, sibling or child who has previously acquired Turkish citizenship, or completing their education in Turkey.
Not having a disease that poses a danger to general health.
Demonstrate good morals by behaving with the sense of responsibility required by living together in society, inspire confidence in their surroundings with their behavior, and have no bad habits that are not welcomed by society and contrary to social values.
To be able to speak Turkish at a level that can adapt to social life.
To have an income or profession in Turkey that will ensure the livelihood of oneself and one’s dependents.
Not having any condition that would constitute an obstacle in terms of national security and public order.

Acquiring Turkish Citizenship within the Scope of the Right to Choose
Persons who have lost Turkish citizenship due to their parents who lost Turkish citizenship by obtaining an exit permit and who submit a written notification to acquire Turkish citizenship within three years from the date they become adults may regain Turkish citizenship by exercising the right to choose.
Loss of Turkish citizenship by exercising the right to choose shall become effective as of the date of the decision of the Ministry on the determination of the existence of the conditions for the exercise of this right.
It is a method of acquiring citizenship that is generally applied to persons who are deemed beneficial to be granted citizenship according to their personal situation and who do not pose a risk to public order.
It is also possible to acquire Turkish citizenship exceptionally under the conditions specified in the law.
Immigrants and asylum seekers may also be accepted as citizens within the scope of the Settlement Law No. 5543 upon the proposal of the Turkish authorities and the decision of the Council of Ministers.
